A form of communication underlies and forms the basis of my 2 and 3 dimensional sculptural work, the literal meaning of which may or may not be understood by the viewer. This serves to reinforce my view that communication is only as strong or as fragile as the receiver or viewer allows it to be. Some will see negative spaces of communication characters within the work while others will see only the positive areas of pattern surrounding them; this echoes the common misunderstandings and misconceptions that occur in everyday interaction. However the viewer interprets the work, I find a great satisfaction in altering and manipulating a flat, heavy sheet of steel to create work with different qualities.
Within printmaking, I enjoy the dialogue between the steel plates and the crisp purity of the embossed paper print produced from them. The fact that nothing is added to the paper, yet the steel leaves a permanent trace is fascinating.

Communication and its' transcription.
“To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others."
